The Brick History
Founded as The Brick Warehouse LP by three brothers, John, Fred, and Bill Comrie, the first warehouse was opened in September 1971 in Edmonton, Alberta. Expansion started soon after with the second location in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
In 2004, The Brick acquired United Furniture Warehouse, which had 81 locations across the country. Two years later, 24 of those stores were rebranded under The Brick banner, and by 2017 all United Furniture Warehouse locations were re-branded as The Brick Outlet.
The Brick was the subject of an acquisition by Leon’s in November 2012, selling for $700 million. Leon’s decided to maintain the two retailers’ brands as separate chains, keeping The Brick name.
